Welcome, New Families!

We’re thrilled to welcome you and your family to the Rumsey Community.  Your journey starts with getting to know the school better, preparing for the start of school, and completing the necessary information so we can greet you on the first day. Our teachers, advisors, coaches, dorm parents, and administrators anticipate your arrival. They are eager to help you ease into the school year and learn more about your academic, personal, and social goals.  Let’s get started!

Step 1 - Get to Know the Rumsey Campus

Located in Washington, in the Litchfield Hills of Northwest Connecticut, our vibrant campus bustles with the energy of students living and learning in 32 gleaming-white buildings on 231 acres along the scenic Bantam River. Our campus includes Upper and Lower School Academic Buildings, Fine Arts Building, Performing Arts Center, nine dormitories, seven athletic fields, two gymnasiums, a hockey rink, three indoor and four outdoor tennis courts and a dining hall/campus center and health center.

Take a minute to familiarize yourself with the campus layout by downloading our campus map (click on the red button) or take a 360 tour (click on the map).

Rumsey Faculty and Administration value the many opportunities to partner with parents and work to establish an open two-way communication pattern that will best serve the student. Here you can familiarize yourself with several school communication channels.

  • Emails and phone calls to the student’s advisor, dorm parents, and administrators are welcome anytime.
  • The Rumsey Hall Parents Page at nlmzg.su-de.com/parents is for announcements, calendar events, and year-round resources such as the student handbook, dress code, etc.
  • The Blue Dog Portal is for contract information, business transactions, and access to the Magnus Health system, and is accessed on the Rumsey Hall Parent page. Instructions to Sign in to the Blue Dog Portal
  • Our photo gallery on Flickr, our video gallery on Vimeo and our social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram all showcase school happenings.
  • Rumsey on the Run, weekly parent newsletter, is emailed to you each Friday. The newsletter highlights student achievements and stories from the week and provides upcoming events details. Here is a sample:

Step 4 - Sign in to the Blue Dog Portal

The Blue Dog Portal gives parents and students easy access to year-round resources. Each parent/guardian and student will have their own assigned login that must be registered first in order to access the Portal. Students will receive their login shortly before school begins.

Parents will receive an email from Rumsey Hall Blue Dog Portal with a Blackbaud ID invitation. Follow these instructions to accept the invitation and set up your Blue Dog Portal account. Each parent/guardian must have their own unique email address to access their student’s record.

For further information about Technology at Rumsey, read the Technology FAQ section.

Step 5 - Complete Magnus Health Forms

Rumsey uses Magnus Health Management Systems to collect and maintain student health information.

  1. Parents should log into the Blue Dog Portal with their own credentials. Then go to the Resource Board and click on the Magnus icon. This action will sync parents directly into their child's Magnus Health Portal account, allowing the parent to review and complete Magnus Health Requirements.
  2. Magnus initiates emails notifying parents of incomplete requirements in the Magnus Portal.

Magnus forms for the 2023-2024 school year will be available from April 22, 2023. All Requirements must be completed by July 1, 2023.

For inquiries regarding your child’s health, please contact Rumsey Health Center:
Email: healthcr@su-de.com, Tel: 860-868-0535 (x154)

All support for Magnus Requirements should be directed to the Parent Magnus Support Numbers:
