Secondary School Counseling begins in the spring of the 8th grade year and continues through the spring of the 9th grade year. Each student is enrolled in a ½ year seminar dedicated to School Placement, including over 80 Secondary Schools visiting Rumsey.

Upper School: Yes. The most common types of computers students bring on campus are Macbooks and Google Chromebooks.

Lower School: No. We supply iPads and Chromebooks for in-school use.

Yes. When your child arrives, he or she will sign an acceptable use policy for technology. 

Each evening your child will check their device/s in with their dorm parent. The devices will be locked and charged during the evening. Students are not allowed to use cell phones during the academic day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

To access the Magnus Health Portal, enter the Blue Dog Portal. Note: Magnus forms for the 2023-2024 school year will be available from April 22, 2023.

All medications including vitamins, supplements, over-the-counter and prescription medications must be dispensed through our Health Center on campus.  Boarding students cannot keep medication in their rooms and day students cannot bring medication to school with them.  If you would like your child to receive medications while at school, please refer to our Medication Policy in the Magnus Portal.
 

Our school culture and curriculum infuses Social-Emotional Learning throughout our activities and interactions. Additionally, George Webb, School Counselor, meets with students for counseling.  If you would like to arrange counseling for your child please reach out directly to the health center at hcr@su-de.com.

If your child will be absent, please notify the school by 8 a.m. or as soon as possible at attendance@su-de.com or 860-868-0535 x970. 

If your child is a day student, they will be assessed by our nursing staff at the Health Center.  All visits will be shared with a parent and a collaborative treatment plan will be created. 

If your child is a boarding student, he/she will be assessed and triaged by our nursing staff. If additional care is warranted, the Director of the Health Center or the Medical Director will assess your child. Rumsey Hall has a 24-hour infirmary; however, if your child needs long-term care, your child will be sent home or to an emergency contact. If you do not have a local emergency contact, please consider contacting Student Health Advocates, an organization that provides this service.

Rumsey operates a fully staffed Health Center with Registered Nurses on duty from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. It looks very much like an infirmary and also has a pediatrician who comes to campus. In addition to top notch care, the staff is very communicative with parents. A member of the Health Center staff or a school administrator will accompany your child to appointments or hospital visits if they are necessary.

All international families who have the international fee on their contracts are automatically signed up by the Business Office for medical insurance that we offer through a reputable company that works with schools and colleges across the country.

Parents will only be able to access and pay tuition and fees for the 2023-2024 Academic Year starting on July 1.

To review your submitted enrollment contract, please log in to your Blue Dog Portal account, click on your name in the top right corner, select Files and Forms, and check the box to show completed forms. You will now be able to review your enrollment contract along with the fee definitions and the payment plan you chose for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.

Yes, each student will have a spending account which is used for things like academic supplies, school store purchases, trips, picture packages, the yearbook, and student bank (boarding student). 

Each student is provided with a student spending account which is used for School Store purchases, student bank (for boarding students); and other incidentals such as weekend activities, travel fees, athletic items, some school supplies or textbooks, testing fees, etc. Rumsey Hall uses MyKidsSpending, an online platform for parents to fund their child’s account using either a credit card or bank account. Spending activity may be viewed at any point in time, however, please know that some transactions are posted by Rumsey Hall in the month(s) following the expense.

There is a small fee associated with using MyKidsSpending (depending on the option you choose); however, we trust that the convenience and transparency of this system will make the fee worthwhile. You will receive a separate email from MyKidsSpending in the coming days with log-on instructions and further details. Please wait for that email to begin the funding process.

Please understand that this account must remain positive at all times. 

We ask that you fund the account before your child arrives at school for orientation if you are a new family or before the first day of school for returning families. Subsequent funding is appreciated before the beginning of each school term. The payment levels and schedules are below. 

U.S. Boarding Students Estimated Full Amount: $4,500  
This does not include music lessons, tennis lessons, riding lessons, Mohawk ski team, Bromley or any other trips should those activities be possible in the future. Additional funds will be required for those activities at time of sign-up. Please fund before each of the three terms in increments of $1,500.

International Boarding Students Estimated Full Amount: $5,000
*You have pre-funded your spending account therefore your funding level should read $5,000 and no additional funding is needed at this time.

Upper School Day Students Estimated Full Amount: $1,500   
This does not include music lessons, tennis lessons, riding lessons, Mohawk ski team, Bromley or any other trips. Additional funds will be required for those activities at time of sign-up. Please fund before each of the three terms in increments of $500.

Lower School Students Estimated Full Amount: $750 
This does not include music lessons, tennis lessons or Tang Soo Do. If your child is signed up for these AEP activities, additional funds will be required for those activities at time of sign-up. Please fund before each of the three terms in increments of $250.

Please note that your child’s funds roll over from term to term and year to year, therefore if the funding levels above currently exist in your account, you are not required to add additional funds at that time. Also, please note that any funds remaining after your child leaves Rumsey will be returned to you.

Rumsey uses an online platform called MyKidsSpending to manage spending accounts. You will be sent a log-in email before the school year begins where you will log in to fund your child’s account. There you will be able to view transactions, add funds, and review your balance.

Yes, boarding students receive $20 from their spending accounts each Friday in anticipation of the weekend activities. This is used for small cash purchases yet weekend trips and such will be billed directly to your child’s spending account. A parent may request more spending money be given to their child by emailing Gena Newman at gnewman@su-de.com by the Wednesday preceding the weekend.
